SIX SOUTH SHORE CAISSE DESJARDINS HAVE UNITED TO HELP MISSION NEW GENERATION MEET THE GROWING NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITIES
During this current economic situation, Food Bank needs have increased in order to meet the demands of beneficiaries, members and families of our communities.
Located in Brossard, Mission New Generation is one of the largest Food Banks in the Province of Quebec and it is now in its 11th year of existence. As a result of the pandemic and the effects of COVID19, the Director General of Mission New Generation, Mr. Stéphane Plante, has stated: “We are all living through a very difficult time. Our Food Bank has been flooded with many more requests from people and families. We presently have 8,606 beneficiaries, mostly from the South Shore of Montreal, who benefit from the organization, and this number continues to increase every week.“
The Caisse Desjardins in Brossard, Charles-Lemoyne, La Prairie, Pierre Boucher, Saint Hubert and Vieux Longueuil are proud to support our organization with a financial contribution of $55,000.00, which will be used to purchase an electric forklift and pallet racks. This equipment will greatly assist the organization in its operations and in the warehouse where 80 tons of food are delivered on a weekly basis.
Mission New Generation is more than a Food Bank. This non-profit organization offers several services at a lower cost:
- A thrift shop;
- Eyewear services;
- An automobile and bicycle workshop;
- For children: a back-to-school event to distribute school supplies; summer camps, artistic events and the Christmas party;
- A community garden in front of the building and maintained by volunteers;
- Development of a project to dehydrate surplus food in order to reduce food waste.
