Who are we?
MNG’s greatest wish is to act as a compass for its community’s youth and older people, guiding its fellow citizens and helping them find the right direction in life. MNG welcomes over 100 different nationalities from all countries, faiths, and creeds. The four cardinal points of the compass symbolizes our openness on the world.
History
Mission Nouvelle Generation (Mission New Generation) first began its operations in La Prairie, Quebec founded by Stéphane Plante. Its primary goal was noble and simple: to fight poverty of all kinds.
Quickly MNG hosted its very first event which was a father/son camping and canoeing expedition held in the De La Vérendrye National Reserve. It proved to be a great hit. This event was soon followed by a Christmas party for underprivileged families in the area, allowing for each child to return home with a gift. That same year, Christmas baskets were also distributed. Shortly after, a modest food bank with a bi-weekly distribution was set up.
2010:
In 2010, MNG began collaborating with other organizations to provide a summer camp for children and teens from low-income families.
In December 2010, MNG took over a nearby food bank that was closing its doors. Its activities were integrated, and, following this acquisition, Mission New Generation soon became one of the largest food banks in Quebec.
Many positive changes developed in 2011, notably new partnerships with numerous local organisations. MNG also began receiving compensatory and community workers. In part from the 200 people originating from three different organisations who generously volunteer their time each year thus proudly helping out the community.
2012:
2012 was a very active year. The food bank updated and modernized its equipment and increased the number of full-time employees.
2013:
In January 2013, MNG had the privilege and opportunity to ship a full container of para-medical products to the organisation of Les Amis De La Sainte-Camille. This organization works in several African countries and provides care and assistance to thousands of patients in their clinics and medical facilities each year.
2014:
In early 2014, significant amendments were made to Mission New Generation’s charter, which enabled the organisation to further pursue its work with the orphan children in Haiti.
At the dawn of 2015, Mission New Generation set off for its big move from La Prairie to Brossard. On July 2th, 2015, MNG set up in its new location, Liberté Yogourt’s old plant on Provencher Boulevard in Brossard, quadrupling its floor space and simplifying things with garage doors and loading docks that come with acquiring this building.
Moreover, all these fantastic improvements are only the tip of the iceberg. Indeed, with its freezers and refrigerators – and many of them built throughout the years and currently in function – the Mission is now able to preserve even more perishable goods and to start developing its industrial food transformation projects.
Since the relocation in Brossard, the new place has allowed the Mission to develop new projects aiming to support the community. In addition to the food bank, the organization now offers activities such as the bike workshop as well as the Back to School event in order to help families in need. Furthermore, many projects are in progress, for example, the community garden, the garage, the food transformation, etc.
As it sets its sights on the future, Mission New Generation is striving to develop new ways of helping its community and is eager to start implementing these wonderful projects.
